We had an appointment yesterday with a Fetal Cardiologist at Texas Children's to have the babies hearts checked out. With the history of heart issues we have in our family, Dr. Ivey decided that just for precaution (and to make Mommy and Daddy feel better) he ordered an Echo cardiogram to be done on the twins. An Echo is performed the same as an ultrasound on the belly it just magnifies the images of the heart so a clearer picture of the valves, chambers and arteries can be seen. Dr. Altman examined Brynlee first. After about 30 minutes of taking measurements, listening to her heart rate and viewing every piece of the organ, she told us that Brynlee's heart looked fine and functioning properly. Chance was a little more challenging. He was positioned in a weird way and she had a hard time getting all views of his heart. He was moving around like crazy and did not appreciate Dr. Altman disturbing his afternoon nap. After a little longer of an exam on him and flipping me around trying to get all views, Dr. Altman told us that Chance's heart was good. He does have a very small hole in between his left and right ventricles. It is very minimal (3mm) and will more than likely close up before he is born. 90% of the time a child has a hole in its heart and the parents do not ever know because it closes before the baby is even born. I was a little freaked at first just hearing the words, but after speaking with Dr. Altman, I feel confident that it is nothing to be too concerned about. It is very common and they will keep a close eye on it after birth. When Chance is born, the pediatrician will come in and take an extra look at his heart to see if it has indeed closed. If it has not, we will continue to take him to the Cardiologist and they will monitor the hole for at least a year. We are handing this situation over 100% to God and are letting Him take control. I know that He will take care of our precious babies. Please pray that the hole closes before he is even brought into this world and that we do not have to be concerned about it later on.
love to you all!!!!
