The weather was nice and cool and we were keeping a pretty good pace. Having fun, talking and laughing...all of a sudden it began to rain and it rained for the first 10 miles of our walk. It made the walk a little difficult, not physically, but mentally. Who wants to walk in the rain for 10 miles? We did and made it through the first 10 miles...still looking good I must add. HA!
The rain kept the day cool and it ended up being a GORGEOUS day and the weather could not have turned out any nicer. God blessed us with the best walking weather possible. Along our 26 mile trek to the first day finish line, there were many, many fans cheering us on and sites to see along the way. We walked through gorgeous residential areas, parks, and old parts of Houston. Along the way, I saw my biggest fans. Thanks to my Mom and Mother in Law, the Wee Ones came to cheer me on. If it were not only for my teammates, but my family, I never would have made it through this journey. I was so happy to stop and kiss the Wee Ones along the way!
We finished 26.2 miles and crossed the 1st finish line around 4pm at Rice University. Burning over 5,000 calories, blisters, leg cramps, and rain, we made it!!! It was very exciting and we felt amazing with what we had accomplished, but we knew the next day would be a challenge. We ate a carb filled dinner, said our goodbyes to our fans and headed home for hot showers, a glass of wine and some much needed rest.
