Hurricane Ike

After spending a few days with our close friends Charlie and Cynthia in Humble and the wading out the storm with Cynthia while Charlie worked, we survived.  The power at the Schreiners' home went out Friday night during the storm and we suffered the heat through the evening and the next day.  The twins and I had a hard time with the heat and slept most of the day trying to survive it.  Thanks to my wonderful husband, he made nice with the neighbors across the street and next door.  By the end of the day, we had BBQ chicken, ribs, queso and sausage to eat on the rest of the weekend.  He helped grill with the across the street neighbors so his pregnant wife and Cynthia could have a good meal despite the situation.  We also had the luxury of tapping into the generator next door and had fans and television Saturday night.  It was heaven, until the thunder storm came and the generator was turned off.  But thanks to my man again, we were able to tap in the next day and had air once again.  Thanks to Charlie and Cynthia, we survived the weekend of Ike safely and we were able to return home on Sunday evening.  Our home in League City had very minimal damage.  A small percentage of our fence was down, a few shingles flew off our roof and our little baby trees were blown over.  We were very blessed with no water damage in our home and no additional damage done to the outside of our house.  Sean and Shane (our next door neighbor) spent all of Thursday morning before evacuating, boarding up our homes and the neighbors around us.  So thanks to them, we had no window damage from the crazy winds .  Our power was only off for a few days, so we were blessed to not suffer too long without it.  I know that a lot of people in Houston and surrounding areas still do not have power as of today.  We pray that those people get power soon and are not suffering too much.  Pictures will be loaded soon to our family albums.

As far as our family members go, we still have a few that are suffering without power.  My dad and Holly in Missouri City still are without power and are living on a generator.  We have offered our house to them, but they are tough and are sticking it out. Thank goodness it has not been too warm the past few days.  My dad and Bryans' office still do not have power in Deer Park either.  My in-laws Rick and Patti are still without power in LaMarque.  As far as we can tell, the beach house on Crystal Beach was taken by Ike.  So my in-laws are suffering from the loss of their vacation home.  Actually, we are all suffering, we loved it there, had so many great memories shared and could not wait to take the twins there.  Both moms in Deer Park and Bryan and his family all have power.  As far as damage, no one really suffered too much damage to primary residence.  My mom lost her huge tree in her front yard.  Most of the limbs came off so she paid someone to cut it down.  Her back fence fell and she lost some plants in her backyard.  Everyone is safe and still have roofs over there heads and foods in their mouth.  We all feel very blessed.  Please keep my neighbors in your prayers.  Shane's mom lived on Crystal Beach and it was her primary residence.  Her house was not washed away, but from the air, she can tell that it is completely damaged and may be unable to restore.  So please pray for them that they find peace in starting a new life away from the beach.  As you go throughout your days, please remember all of the people that lost love ones, their homes, their businesses, their dreams.  But also say a prayer of thanks for those of us who are so abundantly blessed.
